This two-day course is designed for climbers ready to expand their skills to multi pitch routes. Participants will learn the strategy, techniques, and efficiency needed to climb multi-pitch routes safely and smoothly. Instruction focuses on managing rope systems, belaying from above, anchor transitions, and descent strategies - all practiced with an emphasis on sound judgment and self-sufficiency.

Itinerary

Pre-Course:

  • • Confirm gear and course venue

Day 1: Ground School & Systems Practice:

  • • Introductions, equipment check, and safety overview
  • • Review of knots, hitches, team communication
  • • Review of anchor principles and belaying from above with plate-style devices
  • • Rope management and anchor transitions
  • • Special scenarios - hauling, lowering on a plate, and dropping a loop
  • • Lunch
  • • Protecting the leader near the anchor and belaying off the anchor
  • • Descent strategies, rappelling, practice
  • • Debrief and preparation for Day 2

Day 2: Application on Real Routes

  • • Warm up, day overview, review of previous days skills as needed
  • • Guided multi-pitch climbs focusing on efficient transitions and communication
  • • Lunch
  • • Descending practice
  • • Course debrief, next steps and progression planning
What to Bring

Clothing & Gear:

  • • Comfortable, weather-appropriate outdoor clothing
  • • Closed-toe approach shoes or light hiking shoes
  • • Climbing shoes
  • • Food and water for two full field days
  • • Daypack (Must fit all required equipment with room for group gear. We recommend 20-30L.)

Technical Equipment:

  • • Harness
  • • Helmet
  • • Belay device (auto-blocking plate style device preferred)
  • • 4 locking carabiners
  • • 1 20’ 7mm cordelette or quad length sling
  • • 1 sewn or joined prusik loop
  • • Personal Anchor System or Double Length Sling
  • • Nut tool
  • • 1 full trad rack per team (provided or shared as needed – gear based on course venue)
  • • 60m dynamic rope (provided or shared per team)
